Akron Wildlife Removal Tip of the Month: How to Get House Mice Out of Your Attic

Mice in the attic are definitely annoying, yet frequent experience for a lot of homeowners. If you hearing scratching sounds coming from your attic, chances are that Akron mice have inhabited your home. But, how can you get rid of mice in your attic? To answer this question, we must look into reasons why and the ways in which mice get inside an attic. Mice often attempt to inhabit human homes because it appears to them as a good source of food and shelter. Since they normally prefer dark and quiet place, your attic will be an ideal place for them to nest. But, how mice exactly get inside of an attic? Firs things firs, mice have very small, elastic bodies. Mice are capable of actually flattening their bodies to extreme in order to pass through the tiniest of holes and gaps. This means that any possible hole or a gap wider than a half of an inch is a possible entry point for a mouse. Other than that, mice will take advantage on any cracks or rotten spots in the mortar and woodwork of your walls to bite their way in. Once you've noticed Ohio rats in your attic, it would be wise to start handling the infestation as soon as possible.

Inspection of your attic is your primary task. To be able to remove all of the mice properly, you need to inspect your attic first. Try to determine the exact number of Akron mice in your attic, any possible nests with babies as well, and look for spots where it appears that mice are leaving their feces and urine. These spots are likely to be a part of moving patterns in mice. Although mice don't have as steady moving patterns as rats do, you will still be able to make some sense of the spots and areas mice spend most of their time in. you will later use these spots to set your traps. After you've examined your attic to get somewhat of sense regarding the size of the infestation and mice moving patterns, you should go on and inspect your attic thoroughly for any damaged spots that need repair. Look for any holes and gaps that are wider than half-an-inch. Ohio mice are able of using even holes as small as these to flatten their bodies and get inside.

Sealing your attic is the next step you should take. If you decide that you want to remove the Akron mice by excluding them, your task will be to seal all the holes and gaps in your attic but one. You should leave one exit point for mice to use to get out, and you will use this spot to install your exclusion funnel. I you've, again, decided that you want to trap the mice in your attic, you should seal all of the holes and gaps you find inside your attic. Pay special attention to windows and vents and seal them with mesh wire, so that mice could no longer use these spots to get inside the attic. Also, inspect your attic for any spots that have rusted, cracked or rotten. Given that the structure of the material in these spots is compromised, mice, along with other critters, will be able to bite through and create entries for them. You want to avoid this. You will do that by making sure that your attic is sealed before you begin removing Ohio mice. After you've sealed your attic, you can choose between exclusion and trapping to remove the mice.
